One of the toughest things for us to ever do on set is BTS, a la Behind The Scenes. Obviously being a small crew with video gear, setup, lighting, staging, planning etc… we get right to work. Thus the almighty GoPro with its easy mounting features and easy button setup. Battery died on the GoPro so it ended sooner than expected. We do try to take photos as much as we can but focusing on the project on hand is first and top priority, this is what we snapped with a 5mp HTC.
This night went on flawlessly. Bizoh with his lines well rehearsed with swag and Mark’s outspoken improv. Great individuals to be in the presence of.
Lighting is simple, 2 flood lights aimed at each talent, 1 overhead flood to top it off. 2 camera setup along with a director’s monitor to frame the shots.

We had the great opportunity to hang out with Strictly Grindin’ Entertainment and watch them perform at Green Door last month. Mad props to this family that has been extremely busy on the grind.
Filmed all handheld on 7D using onboard mic (bass killed it) with F2.8 lens in super low light that we had to use our “Flashlight” mode from our HTC EVO 4G. (next time I’m slippin my H1 in my pocket)

Back in April, the crew from NINEOUTOF10 embarked on a 5 day weekend at Las Vegas to participate at the NAB show. Weeks prior, Derek signed us up for a private viewing of Zacuto’s Shootout but it was completely booked, so we made other agendas and arrangements. The first day there after a few hours going through the booths, we came up to Zacuto’s booth and were checking out their new EVF. We were just talking about their demo video on how they dropped it from 20ft high, reconnected it to the camera and powered it up in working order, when we were approached asked to fill 3 empty spots for the private viewing. Sheer luck I tell you.

The first thing that was brought to our attention about watching The Shootout, was why they were comparing a few sub 1k cameras against others in 5 and 6 figure ranges. At the end of the day, there’s a different tool for every job and as we heard from The Shootout, “Different horses for different courses”.

Usually these consists of grillin’ burgers, dogs and bacon with an ice chest of drinks. After a lot of the latter, a bulb lit up (actually it was a June Bug that went into the zapper) over our heads and the bright idea to pull out the camera. More drinks later and we have this:

It’s been long awaited and worth the wait. Back in February, we were on set and filmed the music video, “Touchy Feely” by Jori King, featuring Bizoh. Two talented artist we are grateful to work with. Countless hours of planning, preparation, organizing, rehearsing, and overall logistics behind it felt like giving birth, but with birth… there is life. The energy behind this collaborated group was simply outstanding. We had choreography by Remy of Lionz Den with rehearsals cranked continuously over and over by their team. The lovely models, Sahara, Maggie and Elly grooving their butts off hitting every single beat. Will of Cool Like Dat Studios and our boy, Rude, who both single-handedly backed us on this shoot from beginning to end.
Of course we had our own fun as well too, one hour before the shoot began, our second camera experienced a malfunction during setup and would not power back on. A quick call to our buddy Charome, On The Mark Media, came to the rescue by making the drive out to the set and dropping us a back up cam only minutes to start time.
The budget on production was low key with only $200 to spend, yes you heard that right, two-hundred dollars spent on production to achieve what you will see below. A pair of Kino Flo’s with an assorted ray of color gels, lighted the room. A Glidecam Pro4000 all handheld and no vest with only a C-Stand to aid in proper alignment. One gigantic 10foot jib with one too many operators. And the tools to paint the picture, a Canon 7d and 5dmkII. It was 18+ hours of labor we will all never forget.
